The General Electric CF34-10E is a more powerful variant of the CF34 series. It powers both the Embraer 190 and 195 with a maximum thrust rating of 20.000 lb at sea level conditions. It also features FADEC controlled diagnostics and environmental enhances that make the engine one of the most efficient and comprehensive engines currently available on the market.

Embraer E-195
The Embraer E-195 is, just like the E-190, part of a series of narrowbody, twin-engined, medium range, jet airliners, called Embraer E-Jets. These series were announced at the Paris Air Show in 1999, and entered production in 2002. The E-195 is a slightly larger stretch of the smaller E-190 model but is fitted with the same GECF34-10E engines. The aircraft can accomodate almost 120 passengers in a typical economy class configuration and competes with aircraft in its segment like the Boeing 737-600, CRJ-1000 and Airbus A318.

The Embraer E-Jets line comprizes two main commercial families of aircraft and a business jet variant. Baseline model is made up of the E-170 and E-175 while the stretched versions like the E-190 and E-195 compete with aircraft in a slightly larger passenger segment. The latter aircraft incorporate different engines and a larger wing and landing gear construction. Both the E-170 family as the E-190 family share 98% systems and crew commonality. Compared to eachother, the E-170 and E-190 share 89% commonality, with identical fuselage cross sections and avionics.

The aircraft first flew in March 2004, while its larger brother, the E-195, took of in December that same year. The Embraer E-190 was launched by low-cost-carrier JetBlue Airways which has order for 100 aircraft and 100 options.

Embraer E-190 Family Design

An important feature in the design of the Embraer E-190 was the extensive use of digital modelling and virtual reality. The aircraft is of conventional design meaning it has a low wing design with two engines mounted below the wings. Increased fuel efficiency is achieved by the addition of winglets on both wings as they reduce the amount of drag produced thus increasing lift. As with many new aircraft designs today, the aircraft has an all-digital cockpit and is fitted with five Liquid Crystal color Displays (LCD). Furthermore, the E-190 is equipped with fly-by-wire control (computer-controlled) and electrical primary flight control.

The Embraer E-190 is powered by two General Electric GE 34-8E-10 turbofan engines, rated at approximately 82.3 kN. They are equipped with Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC). Engine performance is continuously monitored and optimized by the fully redundant, computerised management system and results in reduced fuel consumption and maintenance requirements. Electrical power is supllied by a Hamilton Sundstrand auxiliary power unit (APU) located in the aft section of the fuselage.


The E-190 is able to accomodate 98 passengers in a typical configuration over a distance of approximately 4,300km, equivalent to a flight between Paris and Moscow. Its performance characteristics enable the aircraft to operate at restriction-sensitive airports located in strategic places. Its fuel-efficient General Electric engines allows the aircraft to meet and even exceed noise and emission-related requirements established by the ICAO. The E-190 is especially interesting for low-cost-airlines as is has very fast airport turn-around time. Quick loading and unloading is achieved through forward and aft doors on both sides of the fuselage, allowing both passenger boarding and deplaning and servicing at the same time.

Embraer E-170 The Embraer E-170 was the first aircraft of the family that was produced. The first model rolled out of the factory on October 29, 2001, with test flights following roughly five months later. Certification of the type took nearly two years after it was delivered to launch customer Alitalia Express in March 2004.
   
Embraer E-175 In June 2003 Embraer proceede with the launch of the stretched Embraer E-175 jet in June 2003. Major operators of this type include Air Canada and Republic Airlines.
   
Embraer E-190 The Embraer E-190 is a larger stretch of the E-170 model. It has larger wings and new more powerful engines. First flight took place in March of 2004 and was launched by NY based low-cost-carrier JetBlue Airways.
   
Embraer E-195 The Embraer E-195 first flew in December 2004 and is even a larger stretch of the E-190. It was launched by European low-cost-carrier Flybe with an order for 14 of the type and 12 options.
